Agri Tourism Workshop @ Palshiwadi, Baramati Taluk, Pune District, Maharashtra, India

The concept of Agritourism is a mixture of integrating agriculture along with pleasure, thus putting across an option of an Agritourism. Tourists from the urban areas can come and spend their weekends or holidays in a village cum agricultural atmosphere at a very nominal cost. It is the home away from home and with giving a personal feels and that too in harmony with culture, language and ethics.

Agritourism help to conserve, enhance the village environment, village traditions and culture, customs, village arts and handicrafts. Agritourism model gives the authentic experiences to the visitors by showcasing village culture, agriculture, traditions that has helped gain sustainable supplementary income source and generated local employment.

The concept of Agritourism is very simple, whereby the urban tourists go the farms, stay like a farmer, engage in farming activities, experience the bullock cart, tractor ride, fly kites, eat authentic food, wear traditional clothes, understand the local culture, enjoy the folk songs and dance, buy farm fresh produce and in turn the farmer maintains farm hygiene, greets new tourists, sells his farm produce at a better price, earns a livelihood all year round.

I attended 3 days workshop from Feb 18th - 20th, on how to set up Agritourism Centre in own farm to augment the farm income. I am now confident of set up an Agritourism center in my own farm and run it successfully. My objective is to generate local employment and help local farmers to sell their farm produce for better price. Also educate the next Gen on Organic agriculture practices and demonstrate each stage of food production in the farm. My project will be rolled out shortly and it will be first ever such project in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Positive side of Covid-19 in my farming initiative

I too feel too scare of pandemic crisis and feel very sad for devastating effect it leaves across the world. Flipside, it opened up new market horizons for our organic fruits due to long drawn lockdowns of local markets. We explored and worked out a Farm-to-Fork strategy and started supplying organic fruits to direct consumer markets (B2C) outside our region. It boosted our confidence and made us to enter into farming of new era of fruits like Organic Banana and Taiwan Guava. These covers all seasons fruits in our farm starting from Jackfruit in January to Sapota in December through out the year season including Mango, Custard apple, Sweet lime in between months. Some additional fruits like Pine apple, Water apple, Apple Bear and other Exotic fruits have over lap in few months.

With this new addition we are farming about 50 fruits including few exotic fruits like Dragon, Persimmon, Mangosteen, Apple Bear, etc.

We are now seriously contemplating to share our Exotic fruit farm with others who are very keen in enjoying organic natural fruits through out year.
